1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) describes the rules for using the Bookworm Central web-based platform (“Platform”). These rules help protect students, educators, families, and the educational environment.
This AUP applies to all users, including students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
2. Appropriate Use
Users must use the Platform only for:
- Educational reading activities;
- Logging books and reflections;
- Viewing reading progress and reports;
- Classroom and school literacy support.
The Platform may not be used for general social networking, political campaigning, commercial advertising, or any non-educational purpose.
3. Account and Login Responsibilities
Users must:
- Use only their own assigned account;
- Keep passwords and login details private;
- Log out when finished, especially on shared devices;
- Report suspected misuse or unauthorized access to a teacher or administrator.
Users may not:
- Share login credentials with others;
- Use another person’s account;
- Attempt to bypass login or security features.
4. Student Conduct
Students are expected to:
- Use respectful, school-appropriate language;
- Submit honest, thoughtful reading responses;
- Upload only appropriate photos or audio recordings;
- Follow teacher and school rules while using Bookworm.
Students may not:
- Use Bookworm to bully, harass, or target others;
- Upload violent, explicit, or inappropriate media or text;
- Submit fake entries or spam content.
5. Technology Conduct
Users may not:
- Attempt to hack, damage, or disrupt the Platform;
- Reverse-engineer or modify the software;
- Use automated tools such as bots or scrapers against the Platform;
- Access restricted or administrative areas without permission.
6. Media and Content Rules
Some Bookworm features allow optional selfie photos or audio opinions. These features are intended only for educational purposes.
Users must:
- Upload only school-appropriate images and audio;
- Respect others’ privacy and seek permission where necessary;
- Refrain from uploading copyrighted or non-educational material.
7. Teacher and Administrator Responsibilities
Educators and administrators agree to:
- Supervise student use of Bookworm as appropriate;
- Report misuse or inappropriate content;
- Ensure rosters and accounts are accurate;
- Protect student data and access credentials.
8. Privacy & Access
Users must respect privacy and may not attempt to access data beyond their authorized role. For more information on how we protect student data, see our Privacy Policy.
9. Violations & Consequences
Violations of this AUP may result in actions such as:
- Warnings to the student or user;
- Temporary or permanent suspension of platform access;
- Notification of parents or guardians;
- Involvement of school or district administration.
In serious cases, Bookworm may restrict or terminate access in order to protect the Platform and its users.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this AUP from time to time to maintain a safe and effective learning environment. Updated versions will be posted on this page.
