1. Introduction
Welcome to the Bookworm Reading Program and the Bookworm Central web-based platform (“Bookworm Central”, “we”, “our”, or “us”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Bookworm Central, including all content, features, and services.
By accessing or using Bookworm Central, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the platform.
These Terms apply to students, teachers, school and district administrators, parents, and individual users.
2. Definitions
- Vendor – Bookworm Reading Program, owner and operator of Bookworm Central.
- User – Any individual who accesses the platform (student, teacher, admin, parent, etc.).
- District – A school district or educational institution using Bookworm Central.
- Platform – The Bookworm Central web application and related services.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
3.1 Students and Educators
Students, teachers, and administrators typically access Bookworm via district-provided Single Sign-On (SSO) such as Clever, Google Workspace, or Microsoft, or via credentials created by the District or Vendor.
3.2 Family / Individual Subscribers
Parents or individual users may create Bookworm accounts directly for personal or family use, where available.
3.3 Accuracy of Information
You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account details up to date.
4. Authorized Use
Users agree to:
- Use the platform only for educational or personal reading program purposes;
- Protect their login credentials and not share accounts;
- Use the system respectfully and responsibly;
- Follow applicable school or district policies when using the platform.
Users may not:
- Attempt to access another user’s data or account;
- Bypass or interfere with security or access controls;
- Upload harmful, malicious, or inappropriate content;
- Reverse-engineer, copy, or disrupt the platform.
5. Platform Features and Availability
Bookworm Central provides reading logs, teacher dashboards, badges, reports, and related literacy tools. We may update or modify features at any time to improve performance, security, or user experience.
Temporary downtime may occur due to maintenance or outages. We make reasonable efforts to maintain availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access.
6. Privacy and Data Protection
Bookworm follows strict student data privacy standards and is designed to comply with FERPA, COPPA, PPRA, and relevant state student privacy laws. Student data is owned by the District and is used only for educational purposes.

7. Intellectual Property
All software, code, design elements, graphics, text, databases, instructional materials, and digital assets related to Bookworm Central are © Bookworm Reading Program. All rights reserved.
Users and Districts receive limited rights to use the platform for participation in the reading program only. You may not copy, modify, create derivative works, redistribute, or host independent versions of Bookworm.
8. User-Generated Content
Users may submit reading opinions, text, audio, and optional photos as part of the program. Content must be school-appropriate and comply with our Acceptable Use Policy.
You grant Bookworm permission to store and display this content within the educational context of the program. Student-facing submissions remain the property of the District.
9. Fees and Payment (Family / Individual Accounts)
District licensing is handled separately through written agreements. For families or individuals purchasing access directly, pricing and terms will be disclosed at registration. Unless required by law, payments are generally non-refundable once access is provided.
10. Termination of Accounts
We may suspend or terminate access if a user violates these Terms, attempts to compromise security, uploads harmful content, or otherwise misuses the platform. Districts may request removal of accounts for enrolled students.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bookworm Reading Program is not liable for:
- Loss of data not caused by our negligence;
- Service interruptions, including SSO provider outages;
- Misuse of accounts or unauthorized sharing of login credentials by users.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount paid for services during the relevant contract period, as allowed by law.
12. Indemnification
Users and Districts agree to indemnify and hold Bookworm Reading Program harmless from claims arising from user misuse of the platform, violations of these Terms, or unauthorized access caused by user actions.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the law, platform updates, or security improvements. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised “Version” or “Last Updated” date. Continued use of Bookworm Central after changes become effective constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by applicable state and federal laws of the United States.
